I wish I knew this when I quit dancing. It was a big part of my life for 14 years. I quit right before I turned 18 because I wasn’t good enough to be accepted into the performing arts program at my college.

What have you stopped doing because you didn’t think you were “exceptional” enough to continue?? 👇🏽👇🏾

I think regrets aren’t bad things. They hurt, for sure. But we can either wallow in them or learn from them.

For me, maybe I can’t go back and keep dancing and undo the missed opportunities. BUT, I can look for ways to grow the seeds of what dancing brought me: creativity, expression, movement, and performance.

Also, I’m DEFINITELY attending an adult dance class once life resumes as normal!!!!!!

When we place our value, worth, and identity on our outcomes, it’s a lose-lose no matter what the results are. Why??
.
☝🏻Results aren’t static. (Even good outcomes won’t stick around and you’ll be right back to chasing achievements.)
.
✌🏽We truly can’t control outcomes OR circumstances. (Even the best of parents have children that self-destruct, even the best of bosses might lose their company, even the best of athletes might pull their hamstring.)

What’s the alternative? Do we just stay on the sidelines of life and not try?🤔
.
NO! We climb towards that summit, but while knowing all along the way that our worth and identity (who we are and what matters to us) is not dependent on what happens at the top.
.
We lean onto the messy process that growth requires without making the missteps means something bad about us. We believe that growth is coming even when our results aren’t what we wanted, nor when we wanted them.
.
With a strong identity, we can embrace BOTH the path and the view as we move from summit to summit, and traverse all the valleys in between.

Do you ever think it’s TOO LATE for you to learn or try something new?

I listened to an interview with Dr. Edith Eger @dr.editheger, a 93-year old psychologist and Holocaust survivor on @cathy.heller podcast. When she was 40, a mentor advised her to get her PhD, and she said no, because she would be 50 by the time she finished.
.
👉🏼He responded, “You’ll be 50 either way.”👈🏽
.
That hit me hard. And thank goodness Dr. Eger listened, because she has helped thousands of people through her work, all because she decided that she could keep learning and growing. That it was never too late.

Instead, I learned to independently value and belong to myself, and then bring that self to my role and responsibilities, including as a mother.

That shift changed everything. 💛💛 Not only do I feel happier and more fulfilled in motherhood, I can better accept the hard days (and they are often!) with more resilience.

👉🏼The resentment faded. And I somehow have more to GIVE.👈🏽

Your roles and responsibilities matter. But they can’t be WHO you are and solely where you stake your value. Otherwise, it’s like drawing from an empty, leaky well.

Bring your truest self TO your responsibilities instead of waiting for your outcomes to prove your value, and I know you’ll experience miracles.

I’ve been reminiscing that just a year ago I was in Palm Springs attending @altsummit. Just one week after returning, we were thrust into homeschooling our kids, suddenly prepping our house to sell by owner (we knew we couldn’t afford to wait to see what happened to the market), and trying to work with zero interaction with those around us.
.
💛It feels like a miracle that we’ve made it this far. 💛
.
And yet, one of the biggest lessons for me from this time has been that we can’t wait. We can’t wait to love, to work on ourselves, to speak up, to try, to do something.
.
Yes, circumstances matter. Covid and its restrictions matter. But it’s also taught me that the perfect time will never come. And we don’t know what the future will bring.
.
👉🏼Do something. It doesn’t have to be ALL, it doesn’t have to be NOTHING. I feel this to my bones. 👈🏽
.
So while we have zero ideals yet circumstantially, what is something you are going to stop waiting for? For yourself, for others, to grow, to change, to find fulfillment, etc? I want to feel some hope. And I see that hope in you. 👇🏽👇🏽
