I sometimes feel like there are two Monicas; actually, at least two. But for the sake of this post, let’s say two: Pre-college Monica and Post-college Monica.
These two version of me are quite different people. Sometimes they are alarmingly different. One is daring, fairly silly, and attention-seeking. The other is responsible, rather serious, and an introvert. Good friends will see glimpses of Pre-College Monica, and really good friends will force that Monica our from her hiding place. I don’t think Post-college Monica is a bad Monica, just an evolved one as life forces you to change. I like who I am now, but I have been feeling as of late that it wouldn’t be bad to see more of the old me every now and then.
Whenever I visit my family in Utah, I get glimpses of that Pre-college Monica while I drive around my hometown. I crack up thinking about the funny things I did with my friends, or shake my head at activities I was involved, things you couldn’t pay me to do now. So as much as I’d like to get back some of the Pre-college Monica’s bravery and creativity, there are a whole of of things about the old me I have absolutely no problem ever seeing apart of my life again.
Here’s a list for you!
Ten Things I Will Never, Ever Do Again:
1) Drive backwards through a drive-in.
2) Believe the best job ever is working at Cold Stone because you get to sing to total strangers for two-cent tips.
3) Try out for anything. Like, anything.
3b) Related: Willingly perform in front of hundreds of people.
4) Sell something door-to-door in my neighborhood.
5) Fake injuries and limp around for attention.
6) Dress up in costumes and record videos with my friends on a Friday night.
6b) Think that is a fantastic way to spend a Friday night.
7) Prank call, doorbell ditch, or go toilet papering.
8) Regularly wear matching outfits with best friends for fun.
9) Actually ask to be the one to give a speech or be the MC at a big event.
10) Go to Band Camp.
10b) Disguise it as “Cheer Camp” at school.
This should be fun: what’s on your list?
Lisa Laughs says
I love this pic of you with Ashley!!! 😂 Oh band camp. Yuck.

Oh I am with you on #3. I think that courage for performing and auditioning is mostly a 'youth' thing. I tried out for every single play, musical, choir, and cheer and dance group possible and I LOVED performing. Now you could not pay me money to do any of that. No way! Another few on my list:
1. Slip sappy 'anonymous' notes in a boy's locker
2. Plaster my bedroom walls with posters of hot male movie stars/singers
3. Order a pizza at 11pm and then eat half of it while binge watching seasons of the OC.

Hmmm. This is tough. I probably wouldn't steal boys baseball caps to get attention, I wouldn't sit in the rain gutters and flip people off as they drove by, I wouldn't cut anyone's hair, I wouldn't prank call people either. However, I LOVE……..lip syncing, making music videos, dancing crazy to embarrass my kids, when I make people laugh, getting dirty looks at the grocery store for strange behavior and crossing the line on purpose 🙂 I often bring out the worst in people! Haha!

Wear palazzo pants…and LOVE it. 🙂

Also stirrup pants… 🙂

I worked at Cold Stone too (have we talked about this?) and I would happily resume the daily diet of cheesecake ice cream with raspberries, but I'll take a pass on the singing.

Hmmm, the only things I could think of is highlight my own hair or dye just my bangs and use colored hair mascara. Clearly i hated my black hair in high school 😬

Delta, UT shall never see my face again.

Love your list! My version of #3 was late-night Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers from Wendy's.
Monica Packer says
Wait, Kali–you'd flip people off?! That seriously made me laugh, as I can't imagine you doing that at all. I LOVE your music videos, proof being that I still regularly watch one of your oldies, but goodies: The Golden Rule. Can you still post them? I'm glad you can still be silly. The older I get, I get more like my dad, and he's not that silly… Loving, but not silly. I'd love to learn how to let loose a bit more. Love that about you!
Monica Packer says
Any fashion faux pas is a must! I bet you looked sweet in both of those though!
Monica Packer says
We have not talked about this, and I don't know how! I definitely loved bringing home ice cream daily, as did all my friends and family who I shared them with. Still can't get over how singing to strangers was a "job perk" at the time for me.
Monica Packer says
Well, that's pretty good then! You don't have huge regrets at least. I've never tried colored hair mascara…
Lisa {MoneyHipMamas.com} says
Haha, this is a great post! Let me think…
In a similar vein to yours, I will never again try to go through a drive in with a group of people pretending to be in an imaginary car.
I will never sing/play guitar at an open-mic night (probably because I can't do either–what was I thinking?!)
Unknown says
What? You won't ever repeat #6 or #8?
I guess I need to grow up because I'd still do all of these things! Hahahaha

Don't stop, Tyson! Maybe I'll drive backwards through a drive-thru the next time you and Heather visit. Maybe.
Monica Packer says
I'd love to hear you sing! I remember you having a good voice, too! Imaginary car? I'm going to have to hear about that one.
